One thing about living in a small town, is that it teaches you the discipline of holding your tongue. One never knows how many relations or degrees of relations might be affected when speaking strongly.
And, you may never know that you've caused an offense. You just won't see their business or receive warm greeting in the future.
It is a most natural and unseen consequence.
